Nick Doyle (b. 1983, Los Angeles, CA) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
Nick Doyle’s practice is multidisciplinary and often employs sculpture, painting, mechanical motion and video. He look to media, particularly film, television, and photography as a source of imagery. He think of visual media like a pop culture database full of narratives pertaining to the cultural moment. His interest lies in what these narratives have to say about us as a culture, and the permission these narratives allow us as individuals. His work is a part of the psychological landscape of media culture.
Doyle obtained his MFA in Sculpture at Hunter College in 2013 and his BFA in Interdisciplinary Arts at the San Francisco Art Institute. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally in solo exhibitions with Stems Gallery, Brussels, BE; Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Louisville, KY; Perrotin, New York, NY, Seoul, KR & Paris, FR; Reyes, Finn, Detroit, MI; Pace Prints, New York, NY; Stems Gallery, Brussels, BE; Steve Turner Gallery, Los Angeles, CA among others.
Recent group exhibitions include Mrs. Gallery, New York, NY; Venus Over Manhattan, New York, NY; Anton Kern Gallery, New York, NY; Gana Art Sounds, Seoul, KR; Perrotin, New York, NY & Seoul, KR; UTA Artist Space, Los Angeles, CA; Reyes | Finn, Detroit, MI & Miami, FL; Steve Turner Gallery, Los Angeles, CA among others. He has been part of institutional exhibitions including Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, Louisville, KY and Abrons Art Center, New York, NY. From 2014 to 2017 Doyle was a resident of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s workspace program. In 2013 he was awarded the C12 emerging artist fellowship upon completion of his MFA.
